Discovering Beauty In the Unknown

Each of us carries a story as vast and beautiful as the landscapes around us—unfolding in its appointed time, one step, one season at a time.

There’s something about stepping into a landscape- like stepping into the unwritten chapters of our own stories. The twists of an unmarked path, the rhythm of footsteps, the shifting light that transforms the familiar into something new. Just as the land changes with the seasons, so do we.

Whether you're stepping into something new, waiting in stillness, or standing at the edge of the unknown, every season whispers its own story. Even in uncertainty, each step—no matter how small—carries the seed of beauty, possibility and promise fulfilled.

Because beyond what we see, there is always more—beauty in the unknown, grace woven into life’s in-betweens, and light waiting to be discovered.

Hi I’m Rachel, I paint unwritten melodies — an invitation to step into more beauty & light; a song to fill the ‘to-be-written’ parts of your story... because after all, it’s your life that’s the true masterpiece!

“Painter”—yes, that’s really my last name!

People ask me about it all the time. While it might seem I was destined to be an artist my path wasn’t a straight one. For years, my own art went into hiding or sat on the sidelines… while I pursued graphic design leading to community focused projects and youth work. But in 2018, I fully embraced painting as my calling.

Today, I live and work between the rugged coastal landscapes of Cornwall and the rolling moors of Exmoor, places that inspire much of my work. I’m honoured to have my light-filled oil paintings exhibited in galleries and shows (and online), including Green & Stone of Chelsea’s Summer Exhibition. I’ve collaborated on projects for Forseven’s launch campaign and took part in a press trip retreat for Atlanta Trevone Bay, a luxury Cornwall retreat. My work is collected across the UK and internationally.

“The way Rachel depicts the light makes you feel like you could walk straight into her paintings and never want to leave. I can sit and look at it and instantly feel the sunlight shining through. It brings me a sense of joy and peace. Rachel is as delightful as her paintings and I love that each painting has a story.”

Milestones & Markers

As an artist, I trade footsteps for brushstrokes, layering luminous washes of oil against textured marks to capture light, movement, and depth. I see my paintings as milestones and markers—visual signposts along our journey, sometimes felt beyond words. They remind us of where we’ve been, where we’re going, and the possibilities still unfolding, waiting to be discovered.

Milestones remind us of where we’ve been—the memories, places, and moments that shape us. They ground us in what matters, in the goodness worth holding onto.

Markers, on the other hand, look ahead. They are declarations of hope placed in the present—like setting a stone on the path ahead, a quiet call toward where your deepest longing is drawing you.

Just as a melody carries a song forward, these visual markers hold the promise of what’s yet to come.

When I open my eyes in the morning our painting is the first thing I see reminding me that even on those days where darkness lingers, there is hope, and goodness can light up the hopeless places. Thank you for creating a piece that we will look with wonder at for the rest of our lives.”
